Scream 6 Greenlit, Production Starting Summer 2022 – The Hollywood Reporter

Paramount and Spyglass are returning to Woodsboro. The sixth part of Screaming The franchise has been revealed, with the creative team from the hit 2022 movie back in action.

Once again, Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct, with James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick returning to pen the script. Production is expected to begin this summer.

“We are extremely grateful to the fans around the world who have enthusiastically embraced our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family,” Spyglass and Paramount said in a joint statement.

Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak of Project X Entertainment will produce. Kevin Williamson, who created the franchise 25 years ago with his genre-bending script, will executive produce, as will Radio Silence members Chad Villella and Spyglass’s Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.

“Working with such a wonderfully talented and creative family – and in the lineage of expertly built Wes and Kevin – has been the thrill of a lifetime and we are delighted to bring to the show. next in Screaming saga to life,” Radio Silence said in a statement.

Latest Screaming successfully relaunched the franchise when it opened in January. To date, the film has grossed $62.6 million domestically for a global gross of $106.7 million, a strong showing amid the theatrical challenges posed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It takes the audience back to Woodsboro, where a new killer wearing a Ghostface mask stalks a group of young people.

The Screaming The franchise launched in 1996, with writer Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven creating a generation-defining horror film. The new one Screaming is the first since Craven’s death in 2015 and features original stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette. The film also introduces a new cast, including Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Dylan Minnette. There’s been no announcement on the cast yet, but not all of the characters survived the last outing, so it’s up to the audience to guess who will return.

Like its predecessors, the latest installment leans toward modern horror genres, taking on hot topics like “enhanced horror,” reboots, and legacy sequels.

Screenwriters Vanderbilt and Busick said in a statement announcing their return, “Is this real life? Getting to collaborate again with our friends in the sequel of Screaming The story is more than we could have expected. We were overwhelmed to continue playing in the sandbox Kevin and Wes created. As Ghostface would say, it’s an honor. “

More Project X Entertainment partners: “We have become one big family and look forward to continuing to tell great stories Screaming The universe. ”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Last month, executive producer Villella considered what it might take to create a sixth product Screaming. “To make it special, you need to break established things like new rules and play outside those parameters,” says Villella. Let’s break the rules we just recreated now. And just go for it. I think you have to really go there.”
