The Secret Invasion trailer is here. At Disney’s D23 Expo 2022, Marvel Studios announced the first trailer for Secret Invasion, an upcoming live-action series that will kick off Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the small screen. The Secret Invasion trailer brings back Nick Fury (Samuel L.Jackson), Captain Marvel enemy-turned-allied Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), former SHIELD ally Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), CIA agent Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman), and Avenger War Machine/James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), along with the introduces new characters played by Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke. But we still don’t have a name for either of the latter.
Nick Fury (Jackson) steps out of the spaceship at the start Secret Invasion trailer, before entering a bar, in Eastern Europe, I guess, with the language on the sign at the door. “For years, you’ve been hiding from Earth. I’ve called for your help so many other times, and you’re quite content to let those calls go straight to voicemail,” Maria Hill (Smulders) told Fury when he sat down. Fury – who has grown a beard quite a bit during the years he’s been away from home – replied nonchalantly: “Well, that’s different.”
Elsewhere in the Secret Invasion trailer, Fury asks James Rhodes (Cheadle) how much he knows about his security details. There is a short scene about Everett K. Ross (Freeman) – who is also a part of the upcoming movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – before Talos (Mendelsohn) appeared on screen to warn Fury: “We have to be very careful now.” Cut to another scene, where Talos is faced with dozens of people who look alike – they’re all Skrulls, obviously.
Following an explosion in another shot – also somewhere in Eastern Europe – the Secret Invasion trailer introduces Olivia Colman’s character, who tells Fury: “You have no standing for the war going on. in front of this.” As Rhodes and Hill took turns walking through corridors or gliding through dimly lit alleys, Emilia Clarke appeared to say, “This is just the beginning.”
It’s unclear who she’s talking to, but it was Fury who replied via voiceover: “This is my fight, it’s just me. And I’m the last one standing between them and what they really want. ” The Secret Invasion trailer ends with Skrulls (no camouflage) screaming, helicopters shooting at the convoy, and Talos asking the question in everyone’s mind: “And what is that?” Unfortunately, there was no answer, as the Secret Invasion trailer was cut off at the title tag.
On stage at D23 Expo 2022, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also revealed that Secret Invasion will lead directly into the six-episode series led by Cheadle. Armor Warsproduction has not yet started.
