Sen. Forest-Niesing hospitalized despite being fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Sen. Josee Forest-Niesing is in hospital after contracting COVID-19, regardless of being totally vaccinated.

Her workplace says the 56-year-old Sudbury senator is now not in intensive care and is hopefully on the mend.

It says she was totally vaccinated earlier this 12 months.

So-called “breakthrough instances” of COVID-19 are uncommon.

Ontario reviews that simply 2.4 per cent of COVID-19 instances reported since final December concerned individuals who had obtained two doses of an authorised vaccine at the very least 14 days previous to an infection.

The province estimates that unvaccinated people are seven instances extra more likely to contract COVID-19 in comparison with those that are totally vaccinated.

Amongst individuals 60 years of age and older, the province estimates that unvaccinated people are 28 instances extra more likely to be hospitalized as a consequence of COVID-19.

Forest-Niesing’s workplace says the senator is “grateful for the messages of help she has obtained and the wonderful care the hospital and its workers are giving her.”

Forest-Niesing was appointed to Canada’s Senate in 2018. She is a member of the Unbiased Senators Group.
