Sergio Ramos finally makes his PSG debut as defender takes ‘biggest step’ against Saint-Etienne

Sergio Ramos finally made his debut for Paris Saint-Germain in the Ligue 1 clash with Saint-Etienne.

Ramos joined PSG on a free transfer after leaving Real Madrid in the summer, having spent the previous 16 years of his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 35-year-old was made to wait for his debut for the French giants due to a calf injury, but was included in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up for their game on Sunday afternoon.

What did Sergio Ramos say about his PSG debut?

The PSG boss told reporters after watching a World Cup-winning Spain international pull through to his side’s 3-1 win unscathed: “I’m very happy for the game. Sergio, we are all delighted that he is here after a few months without being able to play since signing for Paris Saint-Germain.

“It’s the biggest step forward for him, having played 90 minutes today.”

Ramos’ Injury Nightmare

Ramos’ appearance against Saint-Etienne marks his first game since Real Madrid’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Chelsea on May 5.

The Spain international struggled with tendonitis in his knee towards the end of his time with the Blancos and was still recovering from surgery when he first arrived at the Parc des Princes.

PSG had hoped Ramos was ready to make his debut in October but then received complaints about keeping him out for a few more weeks.

Pochettino is now likely to ease back at defender as his side face a difficult set of fixtures both domestically and in Europe heading into the festive period.
