Shawn Spears considers him to be a strong influence on Wardlow, leading to his later rise to fame in AEW.
Mr. Mayhem has slowly risen to prominence over the past few months. During the rivalry between MJF and CM Punk, the former Pinnacle member betrayed his master to start his own feud with the Salt of the Earth. This has become a stiff competition in AEW.
In a series of squash matches Wardlow under MJF work, Shawn Spears is almost always seen with him. According to the Chairman, he has had more impact on Mr Mayhem’s performance than imagined.
In conversation with Mark Henry on Busy opening podcast, the former WWE star talked about how he shaped the rise of Wardlow.
“So I was the one whispering in his ear. I worked for Wardlow. While everyone was focused on Max and CM Punk, I made Wardlow the star he was. When guys get to a certain level, or a guy starts to get a little bit famous, or they start to earn a little more money or their star goes up a bit, the thought process of they also change. […] We made him a star and now he’s just sublime and wants to go his own way. Want to do your own thing? Keep going,” Spears said. [H/T Fightful]
Shawn Spears will face Wardlow in a steel cage match in AEW
After Mr Mayhem signed a new contract with MJF this week, it is certain that Shawn Spears will soon face his former teammate in a cage match.
The new contract has a set of conditions for Wardlow to accept for a chance to work on MJF. Among other things, winning a steel cage match stands out as a particularly difficult condition as The Salt of the Earth will act as the referee throughout the match.

With MJF desperate not to face his former minions, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say that the matchup won’t be a fair fight for Wardlow. Only time will tell if Mr. Mayhem will be able to get through the rough patch and move on to the next chapter of his feud with Salt of the Earth.
