Sheriff searches for owner of burned sled found on Central Minnesota lake – WCCO
FOLEY, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities in central Minnesota are investigating the circumstances behind a charred sled found on a frozen lake.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said a call came in on January 15 of a sled that caught fire on Little Rock Lake, just southeast of Rice. Representatives found the vehicle’s chassis about 50 meters off the east coast of the lake.
Only the frame of the sled and some metal components did not burn, all stuck to the lake ice. No identifying marks, such as serial numbers, remain. Investigators believe a flammable liquid leaked from the machine, which was then ignited.
The delegates left the remains of the sled on the lake to be relocated at a later date. However, someone reported 5 days later that remains were found along Sucker Creek Road, NW.
The sheriff’s office wants anyone who knows the owner of the sled or the parties responsible for removing it from the lake to call 320-968-7201, or online contact with Tri-County Crime Stoppers. They can also be reached at 800-255-1201.
