TEXAS – The parents of a 2-year-old boy found dead at their home have been arrested, according to the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday, Rebecca Lynn Hart was arrested on a murder warrant in connection with the death of 2-year-old Daniel Escamia. His father, Eddie Escamia, was charged with endangering a child with bodily harm. He was arrested at the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office without incident along with Hart.
On May 9, congressmen responded to a 911 call about a medical emergency involving an unresponsive child at the residence. At the time of the call, the delegates said CPR was in progress. Daniel was taken by EMS to El Campo Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators from the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers began investigating the child’s suspicious death. Two children, a 3-year-old girl and a 9-month-old boy, were removed from the home as the investigation was pending.
After the sheriff’s office received the preliminary autopsy report conducted on May 10, the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that extensive wound and head trauma resulted in the death. Daniel’s death. It was also determined that his injury happened more than once and over a period of time. It is believed the child continued to be physically abused for some time, according to a statement.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to report it to the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office.
“I would like to take a moment to pay tribute to the innocent child in this case, because he did not deserve it. Daniel also has no say in reporting the horrific abuse,” Wharton County Sheriff Shannon Srubar said in a statement.
