Simu Liu hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the first time this past weekend.
The star of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” talks about being a Marvel superhero.
“I’m officially Marvel’s first openly Chinese superhero,” he laughs in his opening monologue.
He added: “A lot of people ask me how I got a role in a Marvel movie. The truth is, how did I get Shang-Chi where every Canadian got success? their big, by asking politely.”
KARAOKE ALL STARS
Liu participated in a karaoke segment where he played a guy who couldn’t hit the high notes while singing at a bar. He then took on the role of a “financial man trying to get fired.”
REPUBLIC OR NOT
Game show contestants Liu and Ego Nwodim were given clues to try to determine which guests were Republicans.
“I think Facebook is evil,” said the contestant.
Liu’s character reacts, saying, “Oh, is it because they’re spreading misinformation or because they’re banning Donald Trump?”
CALL 911
In this sketch, a group of professors smoke marijuana and get so tall they think they’re dead. The professors took turns calling 911 with Liu’s character telling the dispatcher, “My name is Alan and I’m dead.” He added, “Can you still get here even though I don’t have time?”
THANKSGIVING BAKING CHAMPIONS ONLY
In this sketch, they pretend to make a food web and they’re all making cakes for Thanksgiving. Liu plays Mike, a baker and amateur rapper. “My name is Mike, and I’m here to bake,” he rapped before finishing. He made two cakes and revealed that he baked them wrong. Let’s just say the cakes look inedible.
