With his indie tour in New Jersey This weekend, Chris Rock must have been tempted to drop by his old base to sort out the problem. went down with Will Smith at the Oscars just six days ago. But instead, it was left to “Weekend Update” co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che to defend him. And they hold nothing.
“Intelligence officials are saying that Vladimir Putin is being misinformed by his advisers about how badly the Russian military is operating in Ukraine,” began Jost, misdirecting viewers, “just like as Will Smith’s agent told him, “You crushed it at the Oscars! ‘”
Jost, who is married to Smith’s A-list co-star Scarlett Johansson, later joked that the incident “is a disgraceful act that sets a terrible precedent for having to defend your wife at awards ceremonies. “
“In his acceptance speech, Will Smith said, “Love makes you do crazy things,” added Che. “You know what else makes you do crazy things? Crazy! But I understand where Will comes from. I mean, you can’t expect him to sit there and watch another man jump all over his wife… without signing an NDA. ”
Che was even more scathing when he asked, “Can we stop pretending that everyone knows Jada has alopecia areata? As we’ve heard about Jada and Will’s personal lives, you can’t expect us to hold back on everything. Like Kanye said, “Don’t act like you guys don’t know I have psoriasis.”
“Just selfish as a comedian, I get tired of people putting their insecurities on our joke intentions,” he continued. “I mean, I can’t joke about being cold outside without someone shouting back, ‘Don’t play with my little penis!'”
And finally, Che highlights the fact that Chris Rock “has been very public about his nonverbal dyskinesia, which means it’s very difficult for him to understand nonverbal cues.”
“It was kind of like when he saw an angry Will Smith rushing towards him,” he explained, “instead of getting out of the way, he put both hands behind his back, smiled, and said, ‘Uhh. oh.'”
