Full set of game notes (pdf)

REVIEW BEFORE THIS WEEK
• Sacramento State wraps up the regular season this week as the Hornets host a three-game series against Southern Utah. The Hornets (25-23, 9-6) and Thunderbirds (3-36, 0-15) will play a doubles match at noon Friday, followed by a singles match at noon Saturday.
• Saturday will be Seniors Day and the State of Sacramento will honor it Alondra Mejia and Alyssa Nunezboth the 4th year student and the captain, in a pregnancy ceremony.
• All three games in the series will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Hornet’s Will Schilling voice on the call.
• This week’s games will wrap up the regular season, and there’s plenty to play in terms of seeding the Big Sky Tournament May 11-14 in Ogden, Utah.
• With the three-game Hornets wiping out last week, Weber State won the Big Sky regular-season championship and is the No. 1 seed. Both the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds both bid farewell to the league six. team, and Sacramento State and Portland State are vying for that all-important #2 seed.
• Currently, Portland State (10-5) is leading Sacramento State (9-6) by one game in the convention standings. However, Portland State will host Weber State for a series of three games this week while Sacramento State will play a Southern Utah team still seeking its first convention win.
• If the Hornets and Portland State finish in a tie, Sacramento State will own the winner by taking two-thirds from the Vikings earlier this season at Shea Stadium.
• Northern Colorado is also ranked 4th with a record of 8-7 in the tournament.
• The Big Sky Tournament begins Wednesday, May 11 with four games. The 3rd seed will play the 6th and the 4th seed will face the 5th seed Weber State, while the winner of game 3/6 will face the 2nd seed (either Sacramento State or Portland. State; Northern Colorado has an outside opportunity).
• The Hornets had won each of their first three Big Sky series until being swept by Weber State last week in Ogden. In fact, the Hornets had already spent three home games against Montana before their trip to Ogden.
• Sacramento State will now focus on the final home games of the season. Shea Stadium was removed as Hornet was 12-5 in the friendly penalty area, including a 5-1 confrontation against Big Sky. Sacramento State has won four straight games at home.
• Southern Utah is currently on a 20-game losing streak after losing to Dixie State on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds’ final wins were against Wisconsin and Maine on March 12-13. Southern Utah is looking to avoid the first winless conference season in Big Sky history (2013-present).
• The Hornets have an all-time 31-13 scoreline against Southern Utah, including nine wins in their last 10 games against the Thunderbirds at Shea Stadium.
• Sacramento State was closed to fighting games for the first time in a whole year. In fact, the Hornets were stopped just four times in the first 46 games of last season last week.
• The Hornets’ bats don’t stand up to Big Sky’s opposition as well. In 15 games against conference rivals, Sacramento State comes in at 0.262 with 11 hosts and 0.336 base percentage. In 33 non-league games, Hornet hit 0.292 with 36 home runs and 0.358 percentage on the base.
Lexie Webbcurrently 22nd nationally with 16 home runs, are two hosts who failed to hit 18 laps in a single season at Sacramento State, set by Suzy Brookshire in 2018.
Lewa Day has 12 home runs, and the strong Webb and Day combination has 28 of Sacramento State’s record 47 home runs.
• Right-handed people Marissa Bertuccio is September 17 with an ERA of 2.23. That number includes 18 completes, seven losses (ranked 17th nationally), an average hit rate of 0.233, and 138 hits in 166 plays. The 17 wins tied for the ninth best singles season record at the Sacramento State Div. Era I (1990-pres.). Only six pitchers hit the 20-win mark.
• Wasps have gone home in 31 games this season and are 20-11 in those competitions. The team is 5-12 when they are not homer.
• First-year student stopover Nikki Barboza leads the Hornets with an average of 0.405 hits in the league.
