Soho Home brings exclusive luxury interiors to newly opened West Hollywood store – The Hollywood Reporter
Soho Home is expanding to the West Coast.
Known for its members-only luxury clubs in major cities around the globe, Soho House’s most recent joint venture, Soho Home, is opening its first store in Los Angeles. With the original Soho Home located in New York City’s Meatpacking District and another recently opened studio in London’s Notting Hill, this marks the brand’s third store location.
Nestled on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, the luxury interior design and homeware brand officially opened its doors this week. It is a two-story, 9,308 square foot space that welcomes all patrons to enjoy the studio, visit, eat, drink and shop around the Soho Home collection.
“They’re called studios for a reason,” says Soho House executive director of retail Aalish Yorke-Long. The Hollywood Reporter. “They’re not just stores – that’s not a word we use internally. It’s all about coming and spending time in the space, and really experiencing what it’s like to be in Soho House, while looking at the beautiful furniture. “
Since its debut in LA in 2010, Soho House has established itself as an exclusive hub for Hollywood A-listers and town traders. Before the launch of the Home brand, being inside one of the clubs gave Soho House that feeling. Now members and non-members alike can bring that luxury and comfort into the privacy of their own homes.
“[Founder Nick Jones] He’s a genius on many levels, but he’s a design genius,” Yorke-Long said of how Soho Home was born. “It was his eyes that created [the Houses] special places to hang out. People always say, ‘Oh my, Nick, where did you get this from?’ And he said, ‘Well, we really do. Maybe we should sell it. ‘”
After popularizing the idea to members a few years ago, the Soho House team found that there was a significant need to purchase various furniture and artwork in the clubs.

The CEO added: “The product is very closely inspired by the Houses. “We try to adjust each [Soho Home] studio for the local environment, so we choose as much as possible from Local Houses. Like this feels very Holloway, or feels very Malibu or West Hollywood, while if you come to our store in Meatpacking [in New York City], it reflects more of the Houses there. It’s more OG with a traditional feel and dark wood. ”
At Soho House, everything is designed in-house and always has been. So are all the items available at Soho Home. Since the first Soho House on London’s Greek Street in 1995, the exclusive club has designed each and every piece of its furniture with the help of in-house designers, then created by architects. Hand-selected manufacturers around the world. There are wooden and marble tables made in Vietnam and Indonesia, lights from Italy, carpets from India and more. “Anywhere is best,” Yorke-Long added. “We go, we find the best manufacturers and they bring our designs to life.”
Approximately 20% of all products in Soho Home Studios are created by Soho House members, including all the artwork displayed throughout the space. Yorke-Long says that about 70% of customers are Soho Home members — or Soho Friends, as the brand calls them.

Customers can also shop for Soho Home items on the brand’s website, where they sell most of their current inventory, from a $1,555 mid-century floor lamp and a $3,295 beautiful velvet sofa to a coffee table. Italian marble coffee $4,495 and scented candles worth $150.
Last week, West Hollywood Studios celebrated its grand opening with an all-star launch party, attended by actors like Connie Britton and Lukas Gage. Of all the cities in the world where they can carry Soho Home, Yorke-Long says Los Angeles not only feels right, but is the brand’s largest market in North America.
“We have a huge member base here,” she said of LA. “We’ve got four Houses right now – DTLA, the original West Hollywood, Malibu and [the recently opened] The Holloway House. So we’ve got a big footprint here of members who are already fans of the brand. When we launched online, we saw LA as truly our biggest market. “
After they set their sights on expanding to the West Coast, Soho Home searched extensively for the perfect studio space. “This one has a great history,” the executive said of the Melrose Ave location. “It used to be [interior and furniture designer] Rose Tarlow shop, and it’s really beautiful and unique, that’s how we found the Houses. ”
An annual $130 Soho Home membership, which includes 15% off Soho Home items year-round, plus 20% off items, free shipping, and a preview of the new collection. Membership also includes access to Soho House bedrooms around the world, as well as access to Soho Home studios. Membership does not allow direct access to any of the Soho House clubs.
“We will always be part of Soho House,” Yorke-Long said. “We wouldn’t exist without the House, and we’re about to bring the House home. If you join Soho Friends and become our member, it’s a natural progression to being a House member, so the members interact with each other pretty well. “
Soho Home is currently open at 8540 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood CA 90069.
