Sopranos Lorraine Bracco Dislikes Dr. Melfi’s Final Exit – The Hollywood Reporter
Lorraine Bracco is not at all happy about how her iconic character departed Sopranos in the show’s final season.
Recently visited Talking Sopranos, the popular podcast hosted by Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa, the actress who plays the therapist Jennifer Melfi has revealed her displeasure over the last scene that happens to Tony (James Gandolfini).
In the penultimate episode of the classic HBO show, “The Blue Comet,” Melfi was at a dinner party with colleagues about a study that claimed sociopaths take advantage of therapy. conversation. Looking at the matter for herself, Melfi was convinced of the research and abruptly cut off ties with Tony during their next session without explanation. It was her character’s final moment.
Bracco told Imperioli and Schirripa that she was always devastated by the unexpected passing.
“I remember being so sad [with] the direction that David [Chase] brought Melfi,” she said. “I just feel like he wants me to get rid of [Tony]. I feel that he did it very suddenly. I don’t think she should do it that way. I wanted it to make more sense. I think she’s interested in Tony. Even though he’s an asshole and he’ll never be really straight. But I think she really cares about him. You don’t spend seven years with someone and [then] remove them. I felt bad about that. ”
Bracco plays Dr. Melfi since Sopranos Pilot. The actress told podcast hosts that she’d rather Tony tell her to protect her in the face of research.
“Wouldn’t that be great for him if he told her that? ‘Damn it. I’m doing what I’m doing. I don’t care what you tell me. I don’t care morally you want to guide me. ‘ I think that’s going to be very powerful,” Bracco said.
The actress also noted an interesting little fact about the request she made to creator Chase. “I begged David to play my husband,” she said. “I beseeching he. He said no. He was too busy writing, editing, and blah blah blah.”
