Spectators aim to kick Arsenal goalkeeper after EPL match

LONDON –

A spectator climbed onto a billboard and kicked Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after the team’s 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

The incident happened shortly after the final whistle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Ramsdale went to pick up his water bottle from behind one of the goals.

Spectators jumped over the railings, climbed onto the hoarding plate and aimed a kick at Ramsdale’s back before turning back into the crowd in the South stands. Ramsdale appeared unhurt and was dragged out of the area by teammates before celebrating in front of Arsenal supporters at the other end of the stadium.

Interviewed after the game, Ramsdale said he received “a light punch in the back.”

“It’s a shame because it’s just a football game at the end of the day,” said the England international.

“Both groups of players tried to send me away. Fortunately nothing happened too badly. It left a sour aftertaste but I’m sure we’ll enjoy it when we return to the dressing room.”

Tottenham defender Eric Dier said of the incident: “It was unacceptable and shouldn’t have happened.”

The Football Association said it strongly condemns the incident.

“This is completely unacceptable behaviour,” the regulator said, “and we will work together with the police, relevant authorities and clubs to ensure appropriate action is taken. case is performed.”

Ramsdale may have angered Tottenham fans by turning to the south stand, where the home fans were sitting, and kissing the badge on his Arsenal jersey.

Tottenham substitute Richarlison faced Ramsdale and waved his finger.

Arsenal took eight points clear with the win.
