Spring’s 20 best nail colors, according to a celebrity stylist

When it comes to my nails, I usually play it safe. Like any teen with a penchant for Nirvana and thick black eyeliner, when I first started painting my nails, I just painted in black. I’ve been rocking the patron’s manicure for cranky kids for years, baring my chipped and bitten nails with pride. In the end, I grew from it, but I forgot how fun expressing myself through nails can be. Of course, that was for sure, until I decided to switch to my tried-and-true tones to experiment with spring 2022’s best nail colors.

I’ll admit it: For several years, I didn’t even paint my nails. Instead, I choose to focus on fixing my nail health after years of biting them (ouch). But in the past few years, nail art has returned to vogue. After all, there’s nothing quite like the power of a beautiful set of nails — and this trend is a great reminder of exactly that. Bold nails look a lot, and they inspire me to try something new. There’s no time like the present to be adventurous with your nails.

Indeed, what is spring for but regeneration? The change of seasons always excites me inexplicably. Suddenly, anything and everything feels possible. The sun began to shine again, the days lengthened, and countless opportunities spread out before me. The call to try something new can’t be denied, and I’m diving in to find out. A low-stakes way to fuel this enthusiasm for change? Of course a do-it-yourself madman. This year, I’m finally trying out all the nail designs I’ve saved on Instagram and committed to switching things up.

To find out all the best spring nail trends and colors, I consulted celebrity nail stylist Fleury Rose. She gave me the scoop on all the best trends to try for spring, how to choose the one that’s right for you, and some of her favorite shades. Read on for some key manicure inspiration.

What nail trends do you predict will become popular this spring?

According to Rose, people always want any opportunity to express themselves. The season’s bright, bold nail trends reflect that. “When the mask’s mission is over, people really want to see and be seen after what feels like a permanent isolation,” she notes. “This makes me think that people will really cater to the look when the weather heats up, nails included! Think fun bright colors like green, long lengths and lots of expressive nail art just like the girls from Happiness. My clients love the tiny 3D gumball bears I do on their nails — absolutely sweet for spring.”

How do you choose the best nail color for you?

If you’ve ever experienced that salon-fresh feeling with a fresh coat of polish on your nails, it goes without saying: Color can change how you feel. “When choosing a nail color, I usually consider how I feel when I look at it, but also how I want to feel,” says Rose. Choose something aspirational. Whether you need a little confidence or to lift the mood in warm weather, a jacket in bright colors will get you there. Rose’s take: “We’ve just entered March, and it’s still cold. Lots of clients have been using bright, neon and dopamine-inducing colors to improve their moods until the weather warms up. It’s a great time to express your personality through nail colors if you dare! ”

What is your spring nail color recommendation?

Rose said. “I love a green nail set for spring! There’s a specific neon green that seems to be popping up all over my Instagram feed. OPI’s ‘The Pass is Always Greener’ is super pretty even with a french manicure! I’m also obsessed with Megan Fox and her matching green puppy. Very cute! Gucci’s ‘Melinda’ would be perfect! “

Without further ado, dive into the best spring nail colors for a more uplifting mood.
