Sputnik Light vaccine approved for emergency use in India

“DCGI has authorized the emergency use of single dose Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccine in India. This is the 9th COVID19 vaccine in the country,” Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in a tweet. This will further strengthen the nation’s collective fight against the pandemic, he added.

Sputnik Light is based on recombinant human adenovirus serum number 26 (first component of Sputnik V).

According to the RDIF, Sputnik Light’s one-shot vaccination regimen offers ease of use and helps increase the effectiveness and duration of other vaccines when used as a booster.

“Sputnik Light has been authorized in more than 30 countries,” it said.

“Each ‘vaccine’ combination with Sputnik Light provided higher antibody titers on day 14 after the second dose when compared with the initial homogenized regimen (same vaccine as the first dose). and second dose) of each vaccine, it said.
