Star Wars and electric truck life converge in ID.Buzz car show
Volkswagen has launched two ID.Buzz electric vans steeped in Star Wars — and part of a partnership with Lucasfilm and the recent launch of the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series on Disney+.
Like the series, ID.Buzz is coming later than originally anticipated. Production versions of the VW . electric van won’t come to the US until 2024, so save your moments. These trucks are not really fully realized concepts, but skins.
According to Volkswagen, designers from the automaker and Lucasfilm have collaborated on a project that uses a “special adhesive film” applied to the exterior to give them a distinct look – one for the Light version- Side, modeled after Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the other as Dark-Side Edition and modeled on Darth Vader. The Light side has blue lines and underbody lights, while the Dark side has red and red underbody lights.
While the dark side closely follows recent efforts by automakers to capitalize on popular dark side versions labeled Midnight, Night, Nightfall, Onyx, Nightshade, or Blackout — or, even, 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV Redline Edition—The versions on the right that completely include such a view are still few and far between.
The partnership is built on Advertisement in which VW teased in a Star Wars themed Advertisement—Droid chatter, Ewan McGregor, and all.
VW sees the rebooted VW Bus and Star Wars “Obi-Wan Kenobi” as a revival of iconic things from the past, for new generations to enjoy. VW hopes to tap into some nostalgia with its production ID. Buzz — with a ID.California electric camping van, probably. And Buzz could be one of the models received more power and range through an upgrade to its MEB platform.
