The state of decay 3 has been in pre-production for the past two years, Kotaku reportwhile Undead Labs has transformed from a lean and ambitious indie studio into a first-party Xbox developer battling major industry issues, such as toxic workplaces, discrimination and exhausted.
In fact, Kotaku’s report, Undead Labs was pressured to announce The state of decay 3 at Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020 before the developers felt the game was ready for it. That, veterans of Undead Labs said, followed by a rushed internal demo for Microsoft executives, left them baffled.
State of Decay 3According to unnamed sources cited by Kotaku, there are supposed to be two more internal rallies in the fall of 2021, and Philip Holt, the studio executive who became the chief human resources officer of Undead Labs after Microsoft acquired the studio in 2018, want both to include actual gameplay. According to the report, the developers “revolted”, considering the work and preparation required to get the project in such a state. While Holt is pleased, the disruption still pushes a lot of Undead Labs veterans out the door, the developers say.
An unnamed developer told Kotaku: “If this is pre-production, there’s no way I’d have to work so hard to get it all into production.
State of Decay 3 There is no official launch date or window yet. Its Xbox Games 2020 launch announcement famously featured a pre-rendered trailer of a zombie deer, seen through the scope of a crossbow.
“They’re still in a normal state with a lot of things,” said another developer. While, Kotaku’s extensive report Description Undead Labs is plagued by internal dissension and mistrust over issues of discrimination and misconduct, which many workers feel has been abandoned by Microsoft’s new boss.
