Stephen Colbert Nails Matt Gaetz for Going After Mike Pence
Mike Pence received some unexpected defenses from Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night when Late show pursued Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for attack the former vice president at a conference for young conservatives over the weekend.
“One Republican who will not support Pence is Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida, seen here cheering at the wrong part of the seminar on sexual harassment,” Colbert said. He continued to explain it while Gaetz was accused about “trafficking in a woman underage for love”, that doesn’t seem to have affected his speech schedule.
The congressman was a featured speaker at the Student Action Summit at Turning Point USA. Or as Colbert joked, “Gaetz will attend anything that has the words ‘student’ and ‘action’ in the title.”
And in his speech, Gaetz predicted that Pence “will never be president,” calling him “a nice guy” but “not a leader.”
“Oh, snap!” Colbert replied. “Mike Pence was just learned by someone who wasn’t supposed to be within 50 feet of a person.”
The host then moved on to his next monologue by joking, “Better news than Matt Gaetz, monkeypox…”
