Stephen Harper endorses Pierre Poilievre for party leader
OTTAWA – Former Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper has endorsed Pierre Poilievre as the party’s next leader.
In a rare return to partisan politics, Harper released a short video on Twitter discuss your endorsement.
Harper said that the contest to lead the party had many candidates, but one stood out.
The former prime minister says that Poilievre was a strong minister under him when the Conservatives last took power, before being defeated by Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2015.
Harper said that Poilievre had spent several years in opposition to become the party’s “most powerful and effective critic” of the government.
He said that Poilievre talked about pressing economic problems like debt and inflation, and presented solutions “rooted in sound conservative ideas.”
