Welcome to Clock of the weekwhere we will track the rarest, wildest and most coveted watches spotted on celebrities.
Over the past year, Steve Harvey has been on a hero’s journey towards the righteous style. The clothes are gone he told us “27 at the knee. In their place is Balenciaga pajamas from head to toe and pastel pink suit. But what seems to be missing from the makeup, or maybe just hidden under the emerald green coat, is a watch. Fair enough: Rome wasn’t built in a day either. But now it looks like Harvey is tackling his bare wrist problem too, with the Hublot Classic Fusion “Black Magic”.
Hublot is a fitting choice for the new forward-thinking Harvey. The brand’s relationship with the fashion world is profound: Samuel Ross, founder of A-Cold-Wall, Obey’s Shepard Fairey and designer favorite artist Takashi Murakami are all Hublot collaborators. And while Harvey is wearing a monochrome black watch around this time, it should come as no surprise to see him delving into Hublot’s catalog. In our interview with Harvey last year about his new style, he said he’s most excited about the color in his new look. Hublot has no shortage of super bold timepieces on offer — this year, the brand launched a sapphire watch in grape purple after a orange kumquat release in 2021. The way Harvey’s style is evolving, it seems only a matter of time until his watches get weird.
Maluma’s Cartier Ballon Bleu
Cartier watches have such fun blend shapes—imitate clothes, leaning in strange directionsor melting—It’s a big deal when brands do something, well, ordinary. Such was the case in 2007 when the French jeweler introduced Maluma’s Ballon Bleu. The round watch may be the industry’s most popular shape, but somehow it feels interesting coming from Cartier. But of course with Cartier it’s never just a circle. Maluma’s version of the watch has rings inside circles: the case, date window, crown guard, and even the diamonds around the bezel all retain that rounded shape.
Kieran Culkin’s IWC Pilot’s Watch
In his late spot with Stephen Colbert, Culkin mentioned that he came straight from filming Heir and still wearing his costume. We had the fourth piece of clock sabotage — which is Tom Wambsgans Upgrade to Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph an indication that his coup was successful? —but it will be harder to read any symbols from this IWC. If this stripped-down and serious pilot’s suit is what Culkin wears on the show, it could be a sign he’s relaxing and heading to friendlier skies. But this may just be Culkin’s personal watch. He’s worn it before… at one Heir screening. We’ll have to wait until season 4 to be sure.
Rolex GMT-Master II by Rob Lowe
Some people just have all the luck, huh? Ageless wonder Rob Lowe is seen here wearing a very collectible black and brown “Root Beer” GMT. This is the year of GMT. Rolex, Tudor, Grand Seikoand not big Seiko all give new GMT. I feel like I’ve discovered them more often on wrist of the famous people like Lowe. It makes sense that out of the pandemic, people and brands are turning to travel watches.
Darren Barnet’s Seiko x Rowing Blazers “Rally”
I have never hunk Barnet wore the watch we selected for the most affordable release in 2021, are we responsible for awarding it. Brat-prep brand Rowing Blazers has teamed up with Seiko to bring back a few watches from the archives., including this striking “Rally” version with a checkerboard motif on the bezel. It’s a good sign that even though the watches retail for just $495, celebrities with bigger budgets, like Barnet and former NBA player JJ RedickBoth are attractive to them.
