FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Elder Evan Stork Advanced to NCAA Div. I won the track & field championship after placing 11th in the men’s hammer in the NCAA West preliminary round in Arkansas on Wednesday.
Competing on the third flight of the day, Stork fouled on the first try. He then moved up to 17th with a 207-02 throw after his second throw. “Going to the last round, I knew it was going to be my last throw or I was going to go on,” Stork said. “It was dry for the first two innings but started pouring early in the third. When I got into the ring, it started to rain and then turned to pouring rain as soon as I threw. When it left my hand, I knew it. that’s a good throw, I just hope it will be enough.”
The graduate became the first Hornet male to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in hammering since Geoff Fong in 2005. This season, Stork set the school record with a 219-09 at Sacramento State Invitational. Most recently, he won the Big Sky title in the event for the second year in a row.
