Students at Kenowa Hills High School use 3D printers to make flower bouquets for Ukraine
Kent COUNTY, Mich. – Russia’s war in Ukraine continues without end. We are now seeing the Russians targeting and killing civilians almost a month after the conflict.
Maxwell Dinesen has no medical experience, but that doesn’t stop him from providing aid. If you have the right tools, he says, you can also help make a difference in this conflict.
Maxwell’s 3D printer is in his room with all the supplies he needs.
“I wanted a 3D printer because I wanted to make things with them,” says Dinesen.
After a while, Maxwell started generating random objects.
“Like this Dwayne Johnson’s head on an octopus. It’s a ‘rocktopus,’ and I just print a lot of random stuff. It’s to the point where I don’t really use it. It’s got to the point of dusting.” , said Dinesen.
He dusted off and got to work. After seeing horrifying images in Ukraine, Maxwell is looking to make a difference.
“Like, I have an opportunity to help and there’s no reason I shouldn’t. So if I can help, why can’t I?” he say.
Over 14 hours, Maxwell’s printer was making three separate parts.
The pieces fit together to form a tourniquet.
“The buckle is on the back to tighten and you just tighten it by turning it, tightening, and then it just snaps right in there and that helps stop the bleeding.”
Maxwell is one of a number of people around Western Michigan who are building them.
Charles Elwood is the organizer of this effort. He says he has 37 people working with 60 printers to make more kits.
“I never thought I would use it for anything that would really help people, but I could,” says Maxwell.
Elwood said the pieces were sent to Denmark to be reassembled and sent to Ukraine.
