Students go out to support Julius Jones
TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa students walked out of class Thursday hours before the scheduled execution of inmate Julius Jones in Oklahoma.
Students from Booker T. Washington High School and East Central High School, among other schools, were among those who came out in support of Jones, about an hour after Governor Kevin Stitt sentenced him to death.
Jones was scheduled to be killed in McAlester at 4 p.m. before Governor Kevin Stitt chose to reduce his sentence to life in prison without parole.

They held up placards and chanted as they called for justice for Julius Jones.
“Julius Jones is from Oklahoma. He’s also a black man like me,” said Christian Davis, a student at Booker T Washington. Because if this were me, I’d want someone to do the same. I want someone to raise awareness. wake me up. I want someone to fight for me when I can’t.”
After gathering on the football field, the students walked around to the front of the school. Nearly all students support.
“Almost every student is out of school,” Davis said. Such things. It just gives me hope.”
It wasn’t just student Booker T who stepped out. Others, including students at East Central High School, strolled around their soccer field. These walks were organized by a group of Booker T students, who contacted other students across the subway line.
“We texted all the other people from other schools and their students,” said Alexis Gomez, a senior at Booker T Washington. Tulsa are all involved in this because it’s never going to happen. be with any of us to take someone’s life. “
Not only showing support for Julius Jones but also opposing the death penalty.
“It shouldn’t be seen as taking someone’s life,” Gomez said, “It doesn’t matter if they’re guilty or not. And we want to make sure that going forward, this is not something we will have to do 30 years from now.”
