Stunning Switch-Bound Metroidvania ‘Afterimage’ Smash Kickstarter Goals

Last year, we covered inform about Beautiful hand drawn Metroidvania Afterimages. Created by Shanghai-based developer Aurogon Shanghai (best known for creating GuJian game – a series of role-playing games set in ancient China) released a campaign on Kickstarter a few months after the reveal of their game. And today, the company announced that it has completed over 600% of its goal.

Aurogon Shanghai set a target of reaching $117,384 HKD ($14,978) but that goal was surpassed within 40 hours of the Kickstarter launch. Today, the final total is $729,949 HKD, over $92,000 USD!

This means that the game has hit many stretch goals, which means even more new content! This includes new game areas, a Castlevania-Boss style rush area, voiceover cutscenes, more gear, a new weapon and even a brand new character! Additional characters will be available as DLC, but backers of the game will get them for free as a small bonus.

Executive producer Yang Ziliang spoke about his inspiration for Afterimage, which includes some of the best works of the Metroidvania genre:

I enjoyed Metroidvania very much when I was a kid. Even if I know almost nothing about game genres, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night creates a lasting impression of what a game can be. After Castlevania: Order of Ecclesiaa long time passed until Hollow Knight and Ori franchise has taken Metroidvania to the next level.

You can expect the polished excellence of many Metroidvania independent of Afterimage, but with an added layer of unique, stunning visuals. You will get:

– 2D side-scrolling Metroidvania ARPG, all in hand-drawn art style
– Seamless semi-open world with over 15 different areas to explore
– About 25-30 hours for the first play
– A wide selection of weapons with special attacks and skills, plus various talent upgrades that will help you form your own fighting style
– Over 40 epic original soundtracks created by Aurogon Sound Team
– Choose your own adventure – a massive storyline and multiple endings await you!
-… and of course Kickstarter exclusive rewards!

We still don’t have an official release date for Afterimage, but it’s expected to make its way to Switch later this year. We think it’s one of those things to keep an eye on, even in the midst of a sea of Metroidvanias on the dashboard. You can learn more about the game on Kickstarter pageand you can also try Free demo on Steam.
