Sugar Land home invasion: Man tied with gun as he left home to drop niece off at school, police say

SUGAR LAND, Texas (KTRK) – A grandfather was tied up by three gunmen who confronted him and his niece during a home invasion Friday morning in Sugar Land.

Authorities received a call around 7:22 a.m. about a robbery on Tay Ho Street in the Eldridge Lake subdivision.

According to officials, the man and his young niece were going out the back door to take the girl to school when they were confronted by men wearing masks and gloves.

The gunmen pushed the couple back to their home, tying the grandfather.

The girl’s other grandfather, who was sleeping upstairs, heard the noises and ran downstairs with a weapon and chased the men out of the house while shooting them, police said.

No one was injured.

The gunmen jumped over the fence and fled.

However, investigators believe the family was targeted because they were also business owners in the area.

Sugar Land Police also added that this particular family was targeted in an earlier incident in another state.

The home invasion is under investigation.

Editor’s note: Sugar Land police initially said it was a father and daughter tied up with guns. At a press conference, they updated the information to explain that it was a grandfather who took his niece to school, and that only the grandfather was tied up, not the child.
