Surgery a possibility for Pistons star Cade Cunningham?

Piston and defend the second year Cade Cunningham was trying to determine if surgery was needed to address the injury to his left shin, according to the veteran reporter Marc Stein.

Cunningham has missed Detroit’s last five games (all losing) due to what the team calls “left shin pain.” Based on Stein’s report, it doesn’t appear to be a mere contusion if surgical treatment is being considered.

1 overall pick in the 2021 draft, Cunningham has averaged 19.9 points, 6.2 bounces and 6.0 assists in his first 12 games (33.3 MPG), but his shot count (.415/.279/.837) is slightly below last season’s score.

Cunningham is considered one of this year’s top breakout contenders and the Pistons have signaled their intention to push for a starting spot when they secure a spot. Bojan Bogdanovic from Utah in September. However, the club started 3-14 and is currently bottom of the NBA standings. As Stein notes, if Cunningham has surgery, he will be out of action for a long time, making it even more difficult for the Pistons to compete this season.

It’s unclear if there’s a timeline for the franchise and its 21-year-old center to make a decision on how to treat his injury. Currently, he is still unavailable, there is no specific timeline for his return.
