Suzanne Guèvremont Appointed President of National Film Council of Canada – The Hollywood Reporter

The National Film Commission of Canada has appointed Suzanne Guèvremont as the new president and film commissioner of the government.

She replaces Claude Joli-Coeur, who has led Canada’s publicly funded filmmaker for nearly nine years and officially left her position on Friday.

NFB’s productions and co-productions have earned 78 Oscar nominations and won major awards 12 times, including animated short films. Danish Poet directed by Torill Kove in 2006 and an animated short ryan by Chris Landreth in 2004.

The NFB received an Honorary Academy Award in 1988 for general excellence in cinema. Early Oscars picked by NFB pioneering directors including Stuart Legg winning best documentary short for Churchill Island in 1941 and Norman McLaren won for NeighborAlso in the category of best short documentary, 1952.

Guèvremont began his five-year tenure at the NFB on November 28. A veteran producer of 3D animation, video games and visual effects in Quebec, Guèvremont is the chief executive officer of Synthese – Pôle Image Quebec and most recently NAD-UQAC, digital art and animation, a post she has held since 1999.

“The Canadian landscape is changing, the means we use to create content are constantly evolving, and so is the behavior of our audiences. I look forward to meeting all of the groups across Canada and working with them to pursue our goals,” she said in a statement on Friday.
