Swimmer goes missing in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

LAUDERDALE-THE-SEA, FLA. (WSVN) – A swimmer has gone missing in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.

He was last seen in the vicinity of Anglin’s Fishing Pier at Commerce Avenue and the beach, around 3pm, Monday.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office and beachgoers, a family saw a man, apparently alone, ready to snorkel, into the water with a small flotation device with a diving flag on it. He has not been seen since.

The police investigation found a small float belonging to the swimmer.

“Hopefully he was just offshore and went out to sea without it, may it all be a misunderstanding and that the buoy fell off the boat,” said one family member.

A BSO helicopter hovered over the water, and several boats gathered towards the area where the swimmer was last seen.

According to the BSO, the diving flag does not have a distinctive identity nor a specific store or name.

The identity of the young man is unknown at this time.

For now, the BSO has given up on the search for the missing swimmer.
