The Switch Online N64 library was updated earlier today with the classic title Pilotwings 64. It also brought the app to Version 2.7.0. So what has changed?
Nintendo as you may recall doesn’t release any official patch notes for these types of updates, but fortunately the famous dataminer Oatmeal is on the case – revealing things have changed behind the scenes.
In addition to the addition of Pilotwings, there are a number of minor changes made to the F-Zero X and Mario plays golf. Here is the summary:
[Nintendo 64 – NSO] – Version 2.7.0 is out.
– Added Pilotwings 64.
– A limit on the number of RSP tasks (part of the N64 GPU) per frame has been removed on F-Zero X. Wondering if performance has improved?
– “RDPIntDelay” and “RDPIntDelayRelative” added to Mario Golf GPU settings.
– A setting named “control_opt_layout_pattern” has been added, this setting will vary from game to game. Apparently it controls some UI related stuff, but I didn’t notice any difference.
Dataminer and Nintendo Life users LuigiBlood also discussed with some info about N64 emulator, Pilotwings and commented on frame rate in F-Zero X:
“The N64 emulator is inaccurate and disregards quite a bit of engineering time causing games to run only at their maximum engine-limited frame rates.”
“F-Zero X … the frame rate is still not 100% 60 FPS, still drops sometimes. Obviously they changed the way frames are handled but it’s still not enough.”
