T20 World Cup 2022: “Faf is still playing well at the age of 37”

Former South African fast pitcher Morne Morkel called on the selectors to consider the veteran hitter Faf du Plessis for the upcoming World Cup 2022 T20 in Australia. Morkel pointed out that although the former captain is 37 years old, he is still playing well.

Du Plessis has no contract to play with Cricket South Africa (CSA). However, there have been calls to summon him to the national team for the T20 World Cup. He had an impressive 2022 IPL campaign, scoring 468 runs with a strike rate of 127.52 while leading Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

At an event in Melbourne to celebrate 100 days until the start of the T20 World Cup in Australia, Morkel open:

“You want all your big-name players to play and Faf is still playing well at 37. He’s still playing well, moving well on the pitch and he’s done well for RCB (at IPL). I will love seeing those experienced players on their side. It’s up to them (CSA) to work it out, but I’m definitely a big fan of it.”

Previously, former South Africa captain Graeme Smith also suggested that Du Plessis should be considered for the ICC event in Australia.

“They have an attack that would suit these conditions very well” – Morkel on South African bowling

Analyzing Proteas’ chances at the T20 World Cup, the former voter suggested that South Africa has a team that competes with the top teams in the tournament. He say:

“I honestly believe they have an attack that fits these conditions. Kagiso Rabada is a world-class performer, Anrich Nortje has done a great job at IPL and Shamsi is a quality spinner. I believe it’s a good balance of squad and in T20 cricket these days the teams are very close.”

Shifting focus to the polishing department, Morkel insists that the top order should make an impression in Australia. He commented:

“From a batting perspective, you can’t help but mention Quinton De Kock because he’s been in great form. Aiden Markram is another quality player, while (Temba) Bevuma finds a way to score and rotate the attack even though he’s not your usual T20 player On these big courts (in Australia) where you can hit the bag and run well, he’s going to be a player great. “

Proteas recently drew a series of T20I in India with a score of 2-2. They will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on October 24 in Hobart in a qualifying match from the First Round.
