T20 World Cup 2022: “He played well against England”

Former Head Coach of Team India Ravi Shastri feel Rishabh Pant have to play in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 against England in Adelaide on Thursday, November 10. The former all-rounder from India feels that the southern team brings the X-factor and could take the game away from England.

Pant played his first game of the tournament against Zimbabwe on Sunday, November 6, but was cheaply killed when Ryan Burl had a great catch.

Southpaw, who replaced Dinesh Karthik in the starting lineup, ran just three times before departing in India’s 14th round.

Speaking after India’s 71st win over Zimbabwe in Melbourne, Shastri agreed that while Karthik remains a team player, Men in Blue must play a match winner like Pant to face England. The 60-year-old also recalls how the Delhi goalkeeper hit the ball with a single hand that helped India beat England in an ODI earlier this year.

Shastri is quoted by India Today as saying:

“Dinesh is a lovely player for the team. But when it comes to a game against England or New Zealand, just seeing their attack, I think you need a strong left-handed player who can pop up. and became the winner. He did well against England.

“He recently won a match against England, a day-long match. I will go with Pant, not only because he plays here, but because of the X-factor angle he can bring to the game. semifinal.”

It’s worth noting that Karthik is yet to open fire with batsmen in the ongoing T20 World Cup, having managed three singles points in as many innings.

“If you have too many right-handed people, you will feel the same” – Ravi Shastri

Shastri emphasizes that the short square boundaries at the Adelaide Oval make it all the more important to have a left-handed hitter to break the rhythm of the British bowling unit. He explained:

“You’re playing in Adelaide, a square with a short touchline, another reason a left-handed player should be there to hinder England’s attack. If you have too many right-handers, that also feels the same.

“England has a nice attacking style of play, a variety of left- and right-handed attacks. You need a left-handed player on your team who can be dangerous and help you win a game. upstream even if you lose three or four. at the top.”
