Update [Tue 13th Dec, 2022 19:30 GMT]: Idea Factory International has announced that Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord is coming to the West next year!
The upcoming strategy RPG and the latest entry in the Fairy Fencer F series, reunites fans with protagonist Fang after he meets two muses named Glace and Fleur. The pair can sing powerful songs that give people powers, increase their attacks, or change their abilities — but Glace can also use her voice to brainwash people.
The game will have its own Limited Edition in the near future on Idea Factory website, so pay attention to that. In the meantime, check out the game’s key features and make sure you check out our origin story below for all the details on the Japanese release.

FFF tactics?! – Strategy to take advantage of a brand new tactical RPG battle system! Use terrain and objects like rocks, boxes, and grass to your advantage. Strategic placement on the battlefield can enhance your dodge or decrease your movement speed, among other effects. In addition, Avalanche Attack and Fairize combat mechanics return!
Fairies, Swordsmen, Rage… and Muse? – With the introduction of two Muses, all-new combat mechanics are in your control. Use their song power to power up allies, or combine both effect booster zones for an even more HOT power! But be careful, enemies in the area can also benefit.
Hidden Fairies, Places and Treasures! – Let’s make a new breakthrough with this new “Shaping the World” theme. With “Position Shaping”, use your collected Rage by crashing them into different locations on the world map. Doing so can unlock items, hidden locations, or even Fairies. Activate a chain to crash into more locations without using up your limited Positioning Energy!
Brand new story with many routes! – Follow Fang and his friends across multiple routes in this all-new story, as they continue their search for the Furies to revive the Goddess. Will you find harmony or discord when fate is in your hands?
Original article [Thu 19th May, 2022 11:45 BST]: Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chordis the sequel to Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Forceit’s a expansion of the Sword Fairy F from 2013 (phewww!), will launch in Japan on September 15, 2022.
Details to courtesy of gemstonewith a first trailer revealed along with some interesting tidbits about what the game will entail. The Refrain Chord, along with its predecessor, involves warriors known as the ‘Fencer’ who wield special weapons containing fairies (hence the name!). The main character of the previous game, Fang, returns in the sequel.

In Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord, highly strategic battles will take place in fields with many high levels. In addition to character direction, Fairize, and height differences, the main feature of the game is the use of “songs” to gain the upper hand in battle.
The enhanced state is called Fairize return. By building a gauge and activating Fairize, your stats will increase significantly. There are also special skills that can only be used during Fairize, and since each character has their own attack range and effects, understanding what makes them unique is key to victory. . Fairy’s song “Fairy Aria” is a special skill that can greatly increase the power of all allies within a certain range. Since this only affects units within said range, it’s important to place your Fairy and the units close together.
There’s no word on a Western release yet, but with the first game widely available, we’d say our chances are pretty good with this one.
