The EMSC mentioned the quake struck at a depth of some 60 kilometers, about 65 kilometers northeast of Hualien Metropolis on Taiwan’s northeastern coast.
Tremors from the quake might be felt as far-off as Taipei, Taiwan’s capital, based on a CNN producer there.
There are up to now no studies of casualties or harm.
