Take a tour of the $35,000 Ford Maverick Laries sleeper truck

Though smaller than most beds, Maverick’s 4.5-foot high bed is packed with smart features and optional add-ons that make up for its petite size.

Ford calls the back end of the Maverick the FlexBed. It’s user-friendly and super flexible.

The minivan is for light family projects and weekend adventures, and its bed has plenty of space for that.

I threw a mountain bike with relative ease (after removing the front wheel).

And Maverick does its best to accommodate larger items when needed.

Like some of the other trucks, the Maverick also features handy stamped slots that fit 2x4s and 2x6s.

The idea is that the owner can attach to inexpensive, DIY bed compartments and the like.

Another big expert: The Maverick doesn’t rise as high off the ground as a regular truck. It’s SUV-sized, so it’s low enough to easily load or jump in.

First, Lainst offers a spray-on bed sheet that makes its bed less slippery to stand on and more durable.

On the left side of the bed it has an LED…

… And an electrical outlet.

On the right, it has a cubby that will be perfect for bungees or other small goods you don’t want to carry around.

The slight removal of the plastic makes the box deeper and opens up more storage space.

It’s standard on all Maverick trucks.

The class comes with rails on the sides with adjustable fastening points.

It is on several other fastening points scattered throughout the bed.

The straps tied on either side of the back door like a bottle opener, bringing the back door in.

You can also choose from a variety of bed sheets.

My tester comes with a fold that you can open in a number of different positions. Fully closed, it locks in place, protecting the bed from other people and the elements.

Overall, the Maverick offers an interesting alternative to the truck market. It’s great for city dwellers or anyone who wants some pickup capability without the unwieldy size of most models.
