How do sowing seeds and pots work?

Qatar, as the host, will take the A1 spot from Group 1.

Another 28 teams were eligible for voting allocation based on the FIFA rankings published on Thursday.

In group 1, Qatar will be joined with the seven highest ranked teams.

Teams ranked 8 to 15 will be allocated in Pool 2, 16 to 23 will be in Pool 3 while Pool 4 will include qualifying teams in positions 24 to 28 as well as three placeholders remaining position – the two winners of the intercontinental knockout stage and the remaining UEFA playoff winners.

Which team is in which pot?

Group 1: Qatar, Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain, Portugal
Group 2: Mexico, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA, Croatia
Group 3: Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, Korea, Tunisia
Group 4: Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Wales / Scotland / Ukraine, Peru / Australia / UAE, Costa Rica / New Zealand

What is the draw procedure?

In each team box, there are eight national-name balls for each qualifying team as well as three placeholders.

There are also eight pots that represent groups and are marked from A to H. In each group vase, there are four balls from one to four representing the position in each group.

A ball is drawn from the team’s pitcher and then from one of the team’s pitchers to determine the team’s position within that pool.

Who are the notable omissions?

Italy, the reigning European champions, missed out on a second consecutive World Cup.

Russia will also not be in the draw after the team was knocked out of the knockout stages due to the invasion of Ukraine.

Also absent will be Egypt, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Algeria, who have stumbled at various hurdles in qualifying.
