Tennessee shooting: 3 dead, 14 injured Sunday, police say

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –

Police say a shooting near a nightclub in Tennessee has resulted in three deaths and 14 injuries from gunshots and other injuries.

Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy said 14 people were hit by bullets and three were hit by vehicles while trying to flee the scene. Murphy said two people died from gunshot wounds and one died after being hit by a car. Sixteen of the victims were adults and one was a minor and several remained in critical condition, she said.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at 2:42 a.m. on McCalie Avenue near a nightclub and found multiple victims upon arrival. She said officers immediately began providing aid and securing the scene.

There were a lot of shooters, and Murphy asked anyone in the community with information about the shooting to continue. She said that police believe it was an isolated incident and that authorities do not believe there is an ongoing public safety threat.

This will be a complex investigation going forward, Murphy said.

“We are trying to determine exactly what happened and what led to this,” she said.

The shooting occurred over the weekend after six minors were injured in a gunfight in downtown Chattanooga.
