Tennis Club of America Chris Evert Says She Has Ovarian Cancer

Former tennis star Chris Evert said she was diagnosed with early stage ovarian cancer.

Evert, 67, revealed the illness in a story posted Friday on ESPN.com; She is an online broadcaster for ESPN.

She learned about the cancer last month and started chemotherapy this week.

“I’ve lived a very glamorous life. Now I have some challenges ahead of me,” Evert said. “But I take comfort in knowing that chemotherapy is about making sure the cancer doesn’t come back.”

Evert has won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, reached #1 in the WTA rankings and was inducted into the International Hall of Fame in 1995.

Her younger sister, Jeanne Evert Dubin, died of ovarian cancer in February 2020 at the age of 62.

“Be your own advocate. Know your family’s history. Have a holistic awareness of your body, monitor your gut, and be aware of changes,” Evert said in an ESPN story. . “Don’t try to be a crusader and think this will pass.”
