TENNIS SIGN OF MEN GRAND CANYON TRANSFER JIRI NOVAK



SACRAMENTO – The Sacramento State Men’s Tennis Program announced today that Jiri Novak will be moving from the Grand Canyon and begin playing with the Hornets in the fall. Novak played two seasons at the Grand Canyon, and will be juniors to the Hornets.

Novak, 6-foot, 175-pound native of Prostejov, Czech Republic, became the second player in Sacramento State’s 2022-23 recruiting class, to participate Tyler Waddock of Calgary, Alberta.

• Played each of the previous two seasons (2021, 2022) at the Grand Canyon of the Western Athletic Conference
• Played number 1 and 2 in both singles and doubles a year ago
• As a freshman in 2021, he played all season as 1st in doubles, and 3rd, 4th and 5th in singles
• During that freshman season, he was the first team to be selected in the all-WAC doubles and the second to be selected in the all-WAC singles
• Receive both WAC Doubles and Doubles Player of the Week
• Doubles with a score of 10-7 as a freshman, all 1st place in the team
• Helped Antelopes win the 2021 WAC regular season and league championship, and appeared in the NCAA Tournament
• Graduating in 2020 (high school) Vocational School of Business and Commerce
• Father, Jiri Novak, was a professional tennis player from 1993-2007, and reached 5th place in the ATP world rankings in 2002.
