Tesla adds rotating screens to yoke-equipped Model S
The Tesla Model S will leave the factory with a rotatable central touchscreen, according to multiple owner reports.
Tesla recently gave the Model S (and Model X) a major interior update that includes a steering wheel, but the company has yet to confirm the rotating display. However, owners have reported that they have seen the screen and confirmed it is a rooted device.
The photo was taken at a Tesla store in Taiwan and posted on Twitter by Michael Hsu demonstrating the Model S with the screen tilted towards the driver. But customers are not allowed to enter the vehicle and move the screen themselves, according to Teslarati.

In One video Posted on Twitter by Larry Li, a Model S is shown with the engine display rotating to face the driver or front passenger. In response to his original tweet, Li said the feature “from [the] Tesla factory” and the Model S in the video were delivered on April 29, The Verge noted.
The Model S has always been at the forefront of display technology, although the touchscreen failure on the Model S and X led to a large-scale recall request from the US government. That couldn’t be fixed with an over-the-air update. This applies to cars with older versions of the portrait-oriented screens that were swapped out for the horizontal ones as part of a recent interior refresh.
Tesla has also lost its monopoly on complex displays. Lucid Air has a Retractable pilot console for climate control, seat settings and other functions are combined with the 34-inch 5K main display. And the BMW i7 was recently revealed with 31.3 inch BMW theater monitordescends from the roof to allow rear-seat passengers to watch movies while they’re driving.

Some vehicles in the Chinese market have had rotating screens for several years. And our recent observations about the usefulness of the rotating screen Fisker Ocean– such as when switching from navigation mode to entertainment mode – was met with resistance from Tesla fans when explaining why the Tesla screen was fixed.
We want to see your thoughts. If you think Tesla’s approach here is better, why is the tilt mechanism more useful (or less likely to fail, perhaps, considering the initial claims) than the approach? turn?
