Tesla Model 3 is no longer eligible for discounts
OTTAWA –
The Tesla Model 3 will no longer top the list of the most discounted electric vehicles in Canada.
Transport Canada said the popular battery-powered vehicle was removed from the list of eligible for federal zero-emission vehicle rebates at the end of November.
The automaker just raised the base price for the Model 3 to $59,990, much more than the $45,000 standard price for a $5,000 discount.
In 2019, the company slashed the price to just under $45,000 to qualify for the discount.
Since the sale began in May 2019, nearly 35,000 Teslas have qualified for it, more than double the number two Toyota Prius.
More than half a billion dollars has been spent on electric vehicle rebates over the past three years, of which more than a third has been spent on Teslas.
