Tesla price drop, US charger growth, Mercedes EQ badge: Car News Today
We may need eight times as many chargers as the US by 2030 to keep up with EV growth. Mercedes could pull its EQ badge, if not the brand. And Tesla discounts, meaning at least one popular model costs 30% less. This and more, here at Green Car Reports.
Just days after reporting disappointing delivery figures, Tesla has reduced the price for all models in its product line. With the Model Y now eligible for a $7,500 EV tax credit, it’s actually $20,000 cheaper than it was yesterday morning.
Just keeping up with the anticipated EV adoption will require eight times the US charger by 2030, according to a new study from S&P Global Mobility. And even taking home charging into account, we will need to quadruple the US public charging network between 2022 and 2025, it claims.
And in another sign that electric vehicles are becoming mainstream, Mercedes-Benz reports could give up its EQ badge for electric cars started in less than two years. Does this mean it also plans to ditch its once-ambitious EQ sub-brand, which was originally tasked not only with electric vehicles but also with mobility, battery charging, etc.?
