Tesla is recalling 2021-2022 Model S and Model X vehicles, and 2022 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles due to a charging issue that could cause the infotainment screen to overheat.
The 129,960 vehicle recall addresses an issue with the infotainment display’s central processing unit (CPU), which may not cool down enough during fast charging, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). recall report.
This is unusual, as the main concern of fast charging is often the temperature of the battery. But this time, it’s the display that is likely to overheat.

Overheating can cause the screen to lag or reboot. Since the rearview camera’s feed is displayed through the screen, this is considered a critical safety issue. It was seen in 59 warranty claims and field reports, according to NHTSA documents.
Tesla at least plans to address this, as usual, with an over-the-air (OTA) software update. A firmware update to improve CPU temperature management is expected to be ready on May 4.
This is not the first Tesla screen problem. It came under pressure from regulators before Tesla ordered a recall of 135,000 Model X and Model S . vehicles broken touch screen.

Tesla was able to handle some of the issues where they needed to submit the recall paperwork, completely online and without the need for a service center. But instead of fixing defects, some recent examples, including cars, are programmed to roll over the stop signs and a “Boombox” feature acoustical jamming of pedestrian warnings, related to addressing features that do not comply with federal regulations.
And Tesla can’t handle all recalls with OTA updates. Whatever hardware related still requires some form of direct testing.
