Thandiwe Newton in conversation with Channing Tatum in ‘Magic Mike’ sequel – The Hollywood Reporter
Westworld star Thandiwe Newton is in talks to join Channing Tatum in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, the third installment of the hit series rife with Warner Bros. enemies.
Steven Soderbergh will return as director for Last dance after skipping the 2015 part, Magic Mike XXL. Reid Carolin, who is behind the script for the first two seasons Magic Mike film, returning as a screenwriter on the ongoing project for HBO Max.
Tatum returns as male stripper Mike Lane, a character based on Tatum’s own experiences as a stripper in Florida.
Newton’s role is not clear but it is the female lead of the film.
Gregory Jacobs will produce the HBO Max series with Carolin, Nick Wechsler and Peter Kiernan.
The first Magic Mike The film grossed $167 million at the box office, with both films’ combined global gross of nearly $300 million. The franchise also produced a lucrative theatrical show, Magic Mike Live, has appeared in Las Vegas, London, Berlin and Australia.
Newton has earned three Emmy Award nominations for her work on Westworld, HBO’s hit sci-fi series is heading for its fourth season. She is about to star in Recall, reunited her with her Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy.
