The #1 Smart Interchanger is shown in production form for the first time
Smart will keep the promise it made a few years ago when it released its first entry on intersection part. Previewed by 1 Concept Design Study Published in Munich in 2021, the pocket-sized soft road vehicle will be called #first when it first launches in 2022.
Let’s quickly settle on one point: Smart doesn’t reveal whether the model’s name should be pronounced “number one” or “hashtag”. “One pound,” is it possible? We think that ultimately depends on when you were born and how many hours you spend on social media. It is almost certain that the company’s future models will follow this naming structure, so it is reasonable to assume that a #2 coming soon.
With that said, the #1 shares some styling cues with the design research that previewed it. It features slim LED headlights connected by a light bar and an air shield that takes up most of the space in the lower part of the front bumper. Its overall proportions haven’t changed much over the past few months, and it looks like the two-tone roof will make the leap from gallery to gallery floors.
Number 1 is larger than Fortwo, but it is still relatively small and these dimensions limit the size of the battery packages that Smart can provide. As a result, engineers have gone to considerable lengths to reduce the crossover’s drag coefficient in order to maximize driving range. While specs are yet to be released, we do know that they feature body-attached door handles (and are said to have an ice-breaker function), and the grille shutters work just fine. term. Based in China Geely handle most of the engineering work while Mercedes-Benz took care of the design; Smart has been Joint ownership of the two companies as of 2020.
Smart will introduce the #1 by the end of 2022, and sales will presumably begin shortly after. Production will take place in Chinabut there is no word yet on whether the model will be sold in the US, a market where Smart remaining in 2019or if it will be offered exclusively on global markets.
