The 5 best summer decorating trends of 2022, according to designers

One aspect of Ayurveda that I love most is the seasonal routine. Ancient medical science believed that we are deeply connected to our environment. Like the different seasons, we are always changing — so changing our lives to accommodate that time of year helps us achieve balance and vitality. This is done through our diet and habits. Anecdotally, I also believe it could be extended to our home. As the air gets hotter and the days get longer, I lean towards cooler, cooler interiors. Bed sheet. Colourful. Beach accessories. Feeling inspired by the ethereal season that has come upon us, I asked a few design experts to capture the top decorating trends for summer 2022.

These looks are gorgeous. But like summer, there is a comfort for everyone. Simply put: They can be achieved with any budget. Because this season is about fluency, and it’s time to slow down a bit. (God, we’ve earned it.) So read on for summer 2022 decorating trends that double the dose of positivity and health.

Trend #1: Fresh and unexpected paint details

Fresh colors will always be in vogue. Julia Miller, owner and lead designer at YOND Interiors, says how you use it will be how you use it that will win the 2022 summer decorating trend. Forecast for this summer. is to incorporate fresh, vibrant paint colors in unexpected forms such as on trim and cabinets, says owner and lead designer of YOND Interiors. “Color can be used in a million ways – and we think summer will be exciting to inject it in new ways,” adds Miller.

Why we love it:

Miller’s prediction is a reminder that new paint doesn’t have to be washed off every wall to make an impact. As she says, use for focus areas to create a punch. “Paint color can be intimidating, but we’ve found that using highly curated paint palette sets, like Farrow and Ball, can help speed up the color selection process,” Miller points out.

Trend #2: Lots of Nature

The Verdant leaves have already reigned in 2022 — and they will continue to do well into the second half of the year. The trend to incorporate rich nature into homes comes from a number of design experts, including Christopher Charles, owner Christopher Charles Interiors, Paul Rochford and Michael Violante, the heads of V&R Interiors. The look can be incorporated in two ways: by including plants in the room or by taking advantage of the views of the outdoor greenery with open windows and blinds. Both are easy and accessible.

Why we love it

Plants always bring a refreshing feeling to any room. Really, any room, including a kitchen, bathroom, or even an entryway. Just be sure to know your plant’s needs as the summer heat may require extra care.

Trend #3: Tropical

In the summer of 2022, interior designer Andi Morse of Andi Morse Design predicts the Maldives as home. The tropical decor creates an instant holiday feel in the room. Morse says this look is simple to get. You can start by incorporating bright “fun” colors, from sunny yellow to emerald green, with pillows, vases, and rugs. But a bolder approach is to incorporate island greenery and textures through wallpaper and prints. Think, “tropical plants, pineapple motifs and leaves,” adds Morse.

Why we love it

Morse, who loves this look for a feature wall, master bathroom or vanity, says the trend is “so fun” and refreshing. “It brings some happiness to the house.”

Trend #4: Indoor and Outdoor Blur

Temperatures are warming in the Northern Hemisphere, which means eating outdoors and spending more time outdoors. Interior designer Andrea Rodman finds that people are creating more opportunities to embrace both outdoor spaces and look of outdoor activities throughout their home this year. Materials like jute for rugs, plush cozy furniture with carved details and more refined designs for outdoor furniture are all in her imagination.

Why we love it

Even if you don’t have an outdoor living space, you can bring something similar en-plein-air Seamless vibes into the house. A jute rug (a focal point that adds a lot of aesthetics) is ideal, but jute accessories and decor also speak volumes for the patio space.

Trend #5: Bright green

One of this year’s biggest color trends continues to draw from the outdoors. Color expert Amy Wax says green, especially earth and green, is a big source of inspiration for designers in 2022. “Green is refreshing and inspiring. natural and colorful — so it fits all those places.” This refreshing and relaxing feeling is ideal for the summer months, as this is the time to relax and bask in the warmth.

Why we love it
