The actor received a prison sentence for dying in a road rage

Mexican actor Pablo Lyle was sentenced to five years in prison on Friday for manslaughter after punching a man to death during an angry street confrontation in Miami in 2019.

The sentence comes nearly four years after Lyle was charged with murder in the death of a man he hit in a traffic collision.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez announced the two-month sentence after denying the actor’s request for a new trial and upholding the guilty verdict the jury made in October.

The 36-year-old Mexican TV star, who appeared on Netflix’s crime series “Yankee,” has faced a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. The judge also ordered eight years of probation, conflict management and 500 hours of community service for the actor.

The actor has 30 days to appeal the sentence.

Dressed in a red prison uniform, Lyle appeared calm and remorseful during the hearing, which lasted more than three hours. He has been in custody since his conviction on October 4.

“I’m so sorry,” Lyle said in Spanish, looking at several members of the Hernandez family in the courtroom, among them his son. “I always pray for him and for you, with all my heart.”

After a week-long trial, a six-member jury found Lyle guilty of manslaughter in the death of Juan Ricardo Hernandez, 63.

Hernandez, who was unarmed, suffered a traumatic brain injury and died four days later on admission.

Lyle’s lawyers argued that he acted in self-defence. They also said there were inconsistencies in the evidence during the trial.

In sentencing, however, the judge said Lyle had made a “wrong decision” and acted “out of anger.”

Tinkler said: “The evidence shows that Mr. Lyle’s actions were an act of violence. “Mr Lyle must be held accountable for those actions.”

The confrontation on the road was captured by security cameras.

Lyle’s brother-in-law is taking the actor, his wife and two children to the airport. Their car overtook Hernandez, who was at a red light, stepped out and approached Lyle’s driver’s window to confirm that they had blocked his way.

According to the security video, Lyle and Hernandez got into an argument and the actor punched Hernandez in the face. Lyle claims he is defending himself. He said his children were scared and he was afraid Hernandez had a weapon.

At the hearing, Lyle’s wife, brother-in-law and sister gave testimony before the judge made her decision public.

As for Hernandez, his son describes him as a very cheerful, caring, in good health and principled person. Juan Ricardo Hernandez Jr. asked the judge to sentence Lyle to a maximum of 15 years.

He said that the day before the scuffle, he was with his father.

“I don’t want to believe it’s him,” Hernandez’s son said as he went to the hospital to see his father after receiving news of the incident.
