David Gower wants Ben Stokes and Co. delivery in the Ashes. He wants England to keep playing their brave trademark cricket everywhere in the world. However, the former England captain has warned that the Australian team has a strong bowling lineup that will present them with a tough test.
The statement comes as Stokes has guided England to nine wins in the last 11 Tests. He recently completed a 3-0 vindication against Pakistan. They also won the Test series with a score of 2-1 against South Africa and 3-0 against New Zealand at home.
Talking to Gulf NewsGower says:
“The big test for Bazball is against the Australians, the chance that we can do it or not will appear in the next few months. It will be very interesting. Australia has a very strong bowling attack and has their own interesting smashers and their own aggressive approach to the game.”
“Britain will start to feel positive about the opportunities, that is the whole culture. They are afraid to lose again because they want to continue to win elsewhere.”
Meanwhile, Gower praised Stokes for reinventing the England cricket team in the Test. He declared:
“Who can believe these events of the past 12 months? He has grown into a great leader and a part [Brendon] McCullum’s plays are great. The way they transformed the Test England team in just a few weeks when he took over, it was unbelievable.
The last time England beat the Ashes (3-2) was in 2015 at home. They drew the series 2-2 in 2019. On the other hand, Australia beat England 4-0 on their backyard in 2021/22. They also won 4-0 and 5-0 at home in the 2017/18 and 2013/14 seasons.
“Shining” – David Gower reviews Ben Stokes on Ian Botham
David Gower said that Ben Stokes overshadowed Ian Botham for his contributions to England cricket. The former England captain pointed to his all-win innings at Headingley to draw the Test series against Australia and his World Cup winning performance in the 2019 final.
I said:
“Ben is a phenomenal player, I couldn’t put it any higher. I think Ben is superior to Botham in some respects. Play 81 at Headingley in 2019 was awesome. He changed from stone defense to full attack, it was a one-off, but brilliant. After that, the World Cup final at Lord depends on Stokes innings.”

Gower also wants Ben Stokes to retire after the ODI to attend the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup. I said:
“People would love it if Ben Stokes played in the ODI World Cup, someone who is growing up to be a remarkable individual. If they want to win the World Cup again, the best they can do is convince him to come back as part of the team.”
The ODI World Cup 2023 slated to take place in India in October-November.
