The Biggest Question About Rings of Power’s End And Season 2, Answered

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power ended its first season with seismic shifts and space to expand. The billion dollar show, was green in the five seasonsfind a place for explosive moments and almost shocking revelationand even a Middle-earth map remade. But it’s still the arrangement on the table – Lord of the Rings We know it’s still a long way off.

With the first season finale announced worldwide, here are the key questions about what exactly happens next in season 2 and beyond. And thank you Rings of Power writer Gennifer Hutchison, we already know a bit about where Sauron, Galadriel and Stranger are headed.

Is the stranger really Gandalf?

Are from The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) Has Appeared has been a mystery, fueled by the cast and crew of Ring of Power causing fans to see him as a “familiar” character.

After eight episodes, the answer seems to be… maybe. Although the finale offers some convincing evidence: White robe decided he wasn’t Sauron, and instead referred to him as “Istar”, which Tolkien fans would recognize as a unique form of Istari, the fairy word for the wizards of Middle-earth. He turns them into a swarm of moths – a move certainly associated with the Gandalf of the Peter Jackson movies. He chooses a staff to cast this spell (or whatever we’re calling it), which seems to conjure up some sort of gray and later white wizardry. And now that he can speak in full sentences, he definitely sounds more like Gandalf, even hearing a lot of what Gandalf has said in Jackson’s movies.

After confronting White Robes, with Stranger deciding that he completely Not Sauron, he decided it was time to head east to the Rhûn to discover more about himself. Nori, always eager to get off the rocky track, decides to go with him while Poppy stays.

In Rhûn, they’ll be able to see the constellation the Stranger has been after throughout the season, known as “The Hermit’s Hat”, and hope to get the answers that the Strangers seek throughout the season. about his identity, his powers, and what he really should do in this world.

What happens in Númenor when the king is dead?

Without getting entangled with vandals about what happened to the Númenóreans Classically, suffice it to say the island nation is in a difficult place. Queen Míriel and Elendil have returned home to join the country in the war against the Orcs residing in created Mordor (Not everyone can call it that), to learn that the king is dead. The pharaoh is continuing to rally residents about a more conservative future for Númenor and fear of outsiders / goblins.

What will Eärien do with the palantir?

Before NúmenorThe king of kings died, he let Eärien into the secret passage with the knight. While we don’t see what happens after that – whether she enters the room or touches the crystal ball – considering what Míriel has seen with the palantír, it seems like whatever happens to Eärien in that room could have consequences for Númenor. And when we talk to Ring of Power writer Gennifer Hutchison, she completely agrees.

While Eärien’s father, Elendil, is associated with elves loyalists, Hutchison said via Zoom, she is a member of the family that represents a more isolated Númenórean perspective. “She was left out,” said Hutchison, “and introducing her into a very intimate space with the king allowed us to hint at how there might have been some conflict, which we built up a lot. much in Númenor – and to make it more relatable, to the characters who are directly part of the story. ”

Is Isildur dead?

Listen: No. He’s very many show later in the classics on the main road. But for now, no one on the show knows that except for his horse. Speed, horse!

What will Galadriel do when he learns that Halbrand is Sauron?

Halbrand has the last bit of manipulation in the eighth volume of Rings of Power when he convinced Celebrimbor to make some rings (maybe even powers), and right at this point Galadriel finally realized what many have theory and known for weeks: Halbrand is Sauron.

Though she rejects him and his offer of power, Galadriel doesn’t reveal to anyone what she knows, essentially following Finrod’s instructions in her vision (slashing Finrod that Sauron gives Sauron). out in her vision) to do nothing to stop Sauron’s plan. So, with Halbrand/Sauron’s ring scheme going on (with the important ring – maybe? – adding a third ring) and Galadriel looking like a bum when around sworn enemies her the whole time, it’s not a great look. While it certainly caused some tension for season 2, especially since…

What does Elrond do now that Sauron is Halbrand?

Although Galadriel did not share her news, Elrond remained suspicious and wandered off to find the family scroll which led him to discover Halbrand was Sauron. Unfortunately, he found this news too late, returning to the workshop just as the fairy rings (rings of strength) were being completed.

Elrond has spent most of this season trying to directly help Celebrimbor and Gil-galad figure out how to rescue the elves, harness the power of mithril, and generally do good in the world. The remaining question is: Will Elrond keep his promise to trust Galadriel and not reveal what he knows?

Hutchison says the challenge to Galadriel and Elrond’s friendship is forging a strong bond, even if the characters have so little screen time.

“When they get back together [in this episode] It was a big moment for them — he kicked her out, and now she’s back. He was between his guilt, ‘I should have trusted you,’ and he was also happy to see her. It was a tough time, now your friend is back. We tried to really invest in that scene with the two of them, talking together about what happened. Luckily, those actors are so amazing and incredible that I feel like they can really play those subtleties.”

That dilemma is one of the key pillars of the episode. “I think in the end it was pretty obvious that there was a bit of a conflict in that moment,” Hutchison said. “She asked a lot about him. We really want that. ‘This is the real test; you said you would trust me. ‘ We really want to make sure that’s going to work. ”

What happens to Durin IV and his dwarven succession?

What we all know is Dwarf rule and there will be more of them in the world. Durin’s plot is to (possibly) overthrow his father, King Durin III, so that he can continue mining mithril. Sure, yes a balrog in the mix there toobut I’m more interested in watching the dwarves rip and bring the party in general.
