The biggest release of the 2023 Rolex is…

The refurbished Daytona will steal the headlines but the watches I was aiming for were the gold versions of the GMT-Master II. Leading the way in the Watch I’d Sell My Soul For club is the all-gold GMT. While the GMT typically features bright two-tone bezels in popular configurations like the red-blue Pepsi or the dark-blue Batman, this new model takes a more refined approach. The bezel is still two-tone but combines black with… less black. One new version comes with a “Rolesor” bracelet—meaning a combination of gold and steel—and the other is made entirely of gold.

The GMT was invented as a sports watch for the Pan-Am crew in the 50s but this is a huge upgrade over that original model. While that watch is built for commercial flying, this is a GMT designed for PJ.

The coolest Day-Date ever made

Judging by the standards of most watch brands, the new Day-Dates lineup is quite consistent. By Rolex standards, they are completely different. We’ve rarely seen anything from Crown like its new jigsaw Day-Date. The dial of the watch is light blue and citrus, featuring a jigsaw puzzle, and the hour markers are made from a pack of Haribo baguette diamonds.

This is a watch perfectly suited to our current new age of healthcare. Day-Date typically uses a window at the top to show the day of the week and an aperture at 3 o’clock to show the date, but who needs to be on time for appointments when you have this watch? The new Day-Date is completely on dwarves. Really good words: the date window now rotates between affirmative words like “Happiness”, “Eternity”, “Gratitude”, “Peace”, “Faith”, “Love” and “Hope” hope”. The date window also shows a new emoji, such as a heart, every day. Isn’t that sweet?
