The Bundeswehr signs Agreement to significantly expand the use of Cyberspace 3 and the VBS Complementary Suite

Orlando Florida – Representing the German Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr has significantly increased its investment in the Virtual Battlespace 3 license as part of an agreement with Bohemia Interactive Simulation (BISim) and euroimtec, the companies announced today.

With extensive experience in modeling, simulation and training (MS&T), the Office of Simulation and Testing (Simulation- und Testumgebung der Bundeswehr SuTBw) chose Virtual Battlespace 3 (VBS3). For more than 5 years, the German military has used Cyberspace with various capabilities, including JFAC, JFST process training, UAV simulation for Army tactical UAVs and artillery training, training infantry and special squadrons at Wildflecken, the German Army’s Combat Simulation Center.

“VBS3 provides a common training solution for all branches of the German armed forces,” said Dr. Mark Dzulko, Technical Director of Bohemia Interactive Simulation. “VBS3 is highly interoperable and gives the Bundeswehr the opportunity to guide their own training and technology requirements in the broadest possible way. We look forward to working with all services in Bundeswehr.”

Euroimtec CEO André Komp noted that, “VBS represents an important training provider to augment the Bundeswehr’s existing virtual simulation capabilities. The agreement also provides the Bundeswehr flexibility to expand further. more the use of VBS for training on services.”

VBS3 provides an immersive virtual environment that helps soldiers train in tactics, rehearse for missions, and practice standard operating procedures. With a post-action assessment tool, the software is designed to help soldiers learn to think, make decisions, and improve communication before hitting the field for live exercises.

VBS3 is the most widely used virtual simulation software for military training in the world. VBS3 is used for desktop tactical training and mission drills as well as a semi-mission trainer and full-mission simulator. More than 30 NATO entities, countries and partner countries use VBS as part of their virtual training, including US Army, US Marines, UK Department of Defense , the Australian Defense Force, the Canadian Armed Forces and the New Zealand Defense Force.

In addition to doubling the number of VBS licenses currently held by the German Army, the agreement provides the German military with the following:

  • TerraTools 5, a complete simulation environment development toolkit, and uses map source data to automatically and rapidly generate high-fidelity terrain databases for visual game runtimes, constructive and serious, from TerraSim, a BISim company.
  • euroimtec’s VB-Edit product line, a rapid 3D landscape and object editing tool that you can use with VBS and CAI-TS, software that helps instructors manage complex situations.
  • SimCentric Technologies’ VBS2Fires and VBS2Strike for Call-for-Fire and Close Air Support mission training.
  • Calytrix Technologies CNR-Sim, for in-game communication for VBS3 and LVC Game, HLA/DIS port for VBS3.
  • Silvador, BISim’s rapid tree generation software.

Carsten Barth, VP Sales and Business Development, euroimtec, added:

“We look forward to providing the Bundeswehr with German language customization, training and localization support.”
